Description

Unknown maker unknown model iron-front, ca. 1870. This is a wonderful-looking 23-inch iron-front; I think the base coat is red, with black overcoat, but in some places it seems reversed, or perhaps retouched. Both glasses are old. The center image of a rocky inlet is very well preserved; the original dial has some chipping, with replacement hands. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, and is running and striking on a wire gong. There is no label, inside or out. I cannot find a name for this model or a foundry stamp. $100–$200.
