Description
Welch, Spring & Co. “Round Head No. 4”, ca. 1880. A 32-inch rosewood case with grain-painted rosewood on the bezels; the base is original. The dial glass has old putty but looks like modern glass, the lower glass is period. The time dial holds old paint with some soiling; the hands are proper/original. The lower dial is in good condition with the proper hands. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed EN Welch and is running and striking on a wire gong and the calendar hands are advancing. A good label inside as well as on the back of the door, along with a BB Lewis Perpetual Calendar label. A nice example. AAC sold a similar example last summer for $450. $400–$500.
